SOS Children’s Villages is helping young farmers in Zambia to learn and implement new farming methods. The project aims to enable smallholders to adapt to changing climatic conditions. The LIFE Climate Foundation Liechtenstein is providing part of the funding.

The Liechtenstein charity SOS Children’s Villages is realizing an innovative agricultural project in Zambia over a period of two years, further details of which can be found in a press release issued by the LIFE Climate Foundation Liechtenstein, which is also responsible for part-financing the project. In the food security project, young professionals will be trained in new cultivation methods that have been adapted to altered climatic conditions. Afterwards, the aim is for them to pass on the knowledge they have acquired to smallholders.

“We are supporting this project because it is in line with the goals of our foundation to promote innovative, concrete and impact-oriented flagship projects at home and abroad”, Heike Summer explains in the press release. “Droughts are already a major problem in Zambia, with conventional agricultural processes no longer able to guarantee food security”, the foundation’s deputy managing director adds. In this sense, the LIFE Climate Foundation Liechtenstein is aiming to implement countermeasures so that “people can continue to independently make a living in the future”.
