What is a constitutional hereditary monarchy?

A hereditary monarchy is a form of government in which the position of the monarch is passed down through the family. In a constitutional monarchy such as Liechtenstein, the monarch’s power is limited by the constitution. In Liechtenstein, monarchical power is passed down within the Princely House of von und zu Liechtenstein according to the line of succession.

Other examples, alongside Liechtenstein, include the United Kingdom, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Monaco and Luxembourg.
