What is the European Blockchain Sandbox?
The European Blockchain Sandbox is an initiative of the European Commission that brings together innovative blockchain projects with regulatory authorities from across Europe. The aim is to discuss legal and regulatory issues at an early stage on the basis of specific use cases and to develop solutions jointly.
It operates on the same basic principle as other regulatory sandboxes: companies receive guidance and legal certainty, whilst authorities can gain practical experience with new technologies and learn from one another. This promotes both innovation and regulatory learning.
The Office for Digital Innovation has been involved in the European Blockchain Sandbox as a national authority for several years and has been recognised in this context for its commitment to regulatory dialogue with innovative companies at European level.
