What is quantum computing?
Quantum computing is a new generation of computer technology capable of performing certain highly complex calculations significantly faster than today’s computers. Whilst classical computers process information step by step, quantum computers utilise the physical properties of quantum mechanics to solve certain problems in a fundamentally different way.
This development is particularly relevant to the financial sector because it could have long-term implications for areas such as encryption, cyber security, optimisation and risk analysis. The technology is still at an early stage of development, but it is regarded as one of the most important technologies of the coming decades.
