What were the primary reasons behind Liechtenstein’s decision to join the IMF?

The advantages of joining the IMF (International Monetary Fund) are manifold, but without a doubt, the ability to safeguard Liechtenstein in times of crisis, strengthen its reputation and improve macroeconomic data collection were crucial to this decision. The IMF is also designed to act as a “lender of last resort” to provide financial support if needed. Furthermore, becoming a member improves Liechtenstein’s international position and strengthens bilateral relationships, since as a member of the Swiss constituency in the IMF, Liechtenstein is able to cooperate with Switzerland.
