Does Liechtenstein have banking secrecy?

Share

In 2017, banking secrecy in tax matters was abolished. Since then,
there has been an automatic exchange of tax-related data (no banking data)
with the national tax authorities. However, cooperating on tax matters and
protecting privacy are not mutually exclusive.
Bank-client confidentiality, or more precisely the contractual obligation of the banker to
maintain confidentiality with respect to the personal circumstances of the client, continues to be
enshrined in Liechtenstein law. Client privacy is also protected by the
general provisions of Liechtenstein civil law concerning the protection of personal rights
and by the Data Protection Act.
