Does Liechtenstein have a banking secrecy?

Share

In 2017, banking secrecy in tax matters was abolished. Since then, in accordance with international standards and the automatic exchange of information, tax-related data, but not banking data, can be transmitted to national tax authorities. However, cooperation on tax matters and the protection of privacy are not mutually exclusive.

Bank customer secrecy, or more precisely, the contractual obligation of a bank to maintain the confidentiality of its customers’ personal circumstances, remains anchored in Liechtenstein law. Customer privacy is also protected by the general provisions of Liechtenstein civil law concerning the protection of personality rights and by data protection law.
